What Are The Symptoms Of Cataracts

Usually the development of Cataracts is gradual with a painless worsening of sight. Other symptoms include blurred or hazy vision, gradual loss of colour vision, appearance of dark spots or shadows before the eyes, increasing need for more light to see clearly, night glare, a marked increase in sensitivity to sunlight and rarely double vision which persists if only one eye is open. Often people with cataracts find reading fine print in dim light and/or glare a problem.

What Causes Cataracts

Cataracts can be caused by ageing, sunlight damage, some eye disease (eg. Uveitis) and some diseases of the body (eg. diabetes) and occasionally drugs (eg. steroids) or injury. Occasionally cataracts are present at birth.

How Common Are Cataracts

Almost everyone who lives a long life will develop cataracts. Cataracts usually start in the 50's.
